Campus Spotlight: Health & Wellness Council’s “Case for Wellness” podcast

Want to hear directly from students on their experiences? The Health & Wellness Council, an Undergraduate Student Government ad-hoc committee, is helping amplify students’ voices by sharing their stories through a new podcast, “Case for Wellness.” Since launching Sept. 16, podcast episodes have covered such topics as COVID-19 and mental health, each featuring wellness tips, students’ firsthand experiences and information on resources at CWRU. This week’s episode, which will be released Wednesday, Oct. 28, will be a discussion on the Black student experience at Case Western Reserve University.

“Because our podcast focuses on sharing student voices and experiences, we wish that students will gain courage to be vulnerable with others and themselves with their individual experiences,” members of the council explained. “Most importantly, we hope that our podcast will encourage listeners to talk about these wellness issues on a regular basis within their communities.”

The podcast allows the council to connect with others no matter whether they are on campus or studying remotely. While the podcast’s main audience is based in the United States, it has already attracted listeners from around the world. The majority of listeners fall within the 18 to 22 age bracket, but the council notes they’ve also had listeners in other age groups, including those 45 and over.

Though the podcast is the council’s latest initiative, the council initially got its start in October 2018 and has grown to include 31 members.

“Through our initiatives and events, we aim to promote an understanding of personal wellness in the context of college life, build bridges between students and campus wellness resources, and empower students to critically examine existing resources and take direct action to create improvements,” the council said.

Members of the university community are encouraged to tune into the council’s next edition of the podcast to hear about the Black student experience. Find out where you can stream the podcast.
