The School of Medicine and Siegal Lifelong Learning Program will host the second webinar in the “Racial Disparity, Social Justice and the Opioid Crisis” series Thursday, Sept. 10, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. (EST). The topic of this session will be “Trauma, Mental Health and Substance Use.”
This webinar will draw connections between the traumas of interpersonal and structural racism, mental health problems, and substance use disorders. It will highlight models for trauma-informed care across a range of disciplines, including pediatrics, psychology, psychiatry and addiction medicine.
Valerie Alloy, psychologist and Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services early childhood lead administrator, will present “Children, Racism and Trauma: A Systems Crash at the Intersection.”
Alissa Huth-Bocks, psychologist and professor at CWRU School of Medicine and University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s Center, will present “Trauma-Informed Care within Urban Healthcare Settings.”
Christina Delos Reyes, psychiatrist and associate professor at CWRU School of Medicine and University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center, will present “Practicing Trauma-Informed Care in Mental Health and Addiction Treatment Settings.”
