“Substance Abuse: A County’s Perspective: How Did We Get Here and What’s Being Done?”

The Siegal Lifelong Learning Program will open its fall series on substance abuse Thursday, Sept. 14, at 7 p.m. at the Landmark Centre (25700 Science Park Dr., Beachwood).

The discussion is titled “Substance Abuse: A County’s Perspective: How Did We Get Here and What’s Being Done?”

Attendees will get a brief history of the disease of addiction, the growing death toll in Cuyahoga County and the help being provided by the Project DAWN program and the use of Narcan, also known as Naloxone.

The panelists will be:

  • Kevin Berg, a tenure track counseling faculty member at Cuyahoga Community College;
  • Tom Gilson, Cuyahoga County medical examiner and director of the Regional Forensic Science Laboratory; and
  • Emily Metz, program coordinator of the MetroHealth Cuyahoga County Project DAWN.

Vince Caraffi, chair of the Cuyahoga County Opiate Task Force and supervisor of the Cuyahoga County Board of Health, will moderate the discussion.
