Student Leadership Awards, CWRU Campus Heroes honorees announced

The Student Leadership Awards were created by Dorothy Pijan in 1986 to recognize and honor Case Western Reserve University’s outstanding undergraduate student leaders. Pijan worked at CWRU as the director of Thwing Center and Student Activities from 1982 to 2003. Pijan was a well-respected and nationally known student union professional. She had an incredible passion, drive and dedication to student leadership. After her death in 2003, the awards were named in her honor to recognize her many contributions to student life at Case Western Reserve University.

  • Outstanding Supplemental Instruction Leader: Nova Qi
  • Outstanding New Student Organization: Cooking Club
  • Outstanding Student Organization: TASA
  • Outstanding New Student Event or Program Series Award: Shadowing Case by Case
  • Outstanding Established Student Event or Program Series Award: March for Marfan
  • Outstanding Student Club/Organization Officer: Hunter Stecko
  • Outstanding Student Club/Organization Member: Sanchi Kalra
  • Outstanding Community Service Award (Individual): Dora Lake
  • Outstanding Freshman: Ingrid Gillies and Haneen Abdel-Nabi
  • Outstanding Sophomore: Vianni Bustos and Joy Mason
  • Outstanding Junior: Joel Fuentes and Fatima Rahman
  • Outstanding Graduate Student Organization Member: Isabel Ballard
  • Outstanding Graduate Student Organization Officer: Ashley Mulryan
  • Glenn Nicholls Award for Ethical Leadership: Hunter Stecko
  • Spartan Spirit Award (Individual): Yuliang (Bill) Ding
  • Patricia B. Kilpatrick Award: Aparna Paul
  • Outstanding Senior: Nsisong Udosen, Bianca Camarillo and Clare Beidelman
  • The G. Dean Patterson, Jr. “People Are Most Important Award:” Naomi Sigg
  • Outstanding Faculty Award for Student Development: Bernard Jim

In addition to the awards that were presented, Student Activities & Leadership wanted to recognize students who have gone above and beyond in their efforts to support and assist the CWRU community during the COVID-19 crisis. The office asked for nominations of deserving graduate and undergraduate students, receiving 76 nominations.
