“Race and the Clinical Management of Cardiovascular Health”

The Ohio Cardiovascular and Diabetes Health Collaborative (Cardi-OH) will host a webinar titled “Race and the Clinical Management of Cardiovascular Health,” Wednesday, March 16, from noon to 1 p.m.

Presenters during this 1.00 CME-credit webinar will:

• Describe how the construct of race has been applied in clinical care of cardiovascular health;
• Review recent changes in academic and clinical discourse on the use of the construct of race in clinical guidelines;
• Describe how the historical context and recent changes on the construct of race in clinical guidelines impact primary care practice.

Herman A. Taylor Jr., endowed professor and director of the Cardiovascular Research Institute at Morehouse School of Medicine, will be the keynote speaker.

The panelists will be:

• Lou Edje: professor and associate dean of graduate medical education at University of Cincinnati College of Medicine;
• Crystal A. Gadegbeku, chair of the Department of Kidney Medicine at Cleveland Clinic Glickman Urology & Kidney Institute; and
• Leon McDougle, professor and associate dean of diversity and inclusion for The Ohio State University College of Medicine, and chief diversity officer of The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center.

Cardi-OH is a statewide program with investigators across Ohio’s medical schools based within the Center for Clinical Investigation under Community Health Programs at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine.

Founded in 2017, the mission of Cardi-OH is to improve cardiovascular and diabetes health outcomes and eliminate disparities in Ohio’s Medicaid population.
