The President’s Committee on Child Care Options (PCCCO) announced today that it is sponsoring a three-day spring break camp March 30–April 1 with the Cleveland Museum of Natural History.
Children of Case Western Reserve faculty, staff and students who are in kindergarten through sixth grade are eligible for the 2015 program, which includes activities at the natural history museum as well as the Cleveland Botanical Garden, the Western Reserve Historical Society and the Museum of Contemporary Art Cleveland. Detailed information and registration instructions can be found at cmnh.org/cwru-spring-break.
“This year’s program takes full advantage of the outstanding mix of institutions here in University Circle,” said PCCCO chair Eileen Anderson-Fye, the Robson Associate Professor of Anthropology. “We are grateful to all of the participating organizations, and especially to the Cleveland Museum of Natural History for coordinating all of the programs.”
Activities range from learning about microbiology, building botanical creations and designing paper airplanes using lessons learned about forces and axes of flight. Families can register for one, two or all three days of the camp, each of which runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Drop-off (which begins at 8:30 a.m.) and pick-up are at the natural history museum, as is lunch, which children are expected to bring with them. Children also are provided a morning and afternoon snack. Cost for each day is $50.
Last month the PCCCO and Cleveland Museum of Natural History partnered for a President’s Day program regarding medicine and health. The one-day event sold out within hours of the announcement; the museum added a handful of extra slots to help accommodate the overwhelming demand.
“The response to February’s camp underscores how much families appreciate child care near campus,” Anderson-Fye said, “as well as the museum’s commitment to offering quality programs to as many children as possible.”
The PCCCO’s primary goal is the establishment of a university child care center on or adjacent to campus. As fundraising for that effort continues, the committee has begun offering limited-duration programs beginning in 2013. The programs have covered spring and winter breaks, President’s Day, and Rosh Hashanah, when many local school districts are closed.
For each of these camps, President Barbara R. Snyder’s office will give financial assistance to families with household incomes of $50,000 or less. The president’s office again is providing the support for this camp. Those with questions about financial assistance and their eligibility can contact Human Resources Manager Amy Sheldon at amy.sheldon@case.edu or 216.368.5000.
