Spartan Triathlon Club competes in inaugural race

Spartan Triathlon Club at the team's first competitionCase Western Reserve University’s Spartan Triathlon Club participated in its inaugural race Sunday, Sept. 13, at Portage Lakes, just outside of Akron.

A triathlon combines swimming, biking and running. Team members participated in the Olympic distance (47 miles) and the sprint distance (just more than 17 miles).

Participants were:

  • Todd Siwik,
  • Ryan Curry,
  • David Scannapieco,
  • Christian Nguyen,
  • Jessica LaLonde,
  • Andrew Zapor and
  • Jodie Makara.

Team members received several awards:

  • Curry received first in his age group in the Olympic distance;
  • Scannapieco and Nguyen came in second in their age groups in the Olympic distance;
  • LaLonde and Zapor finished in second in their age groups in the sprint distance; and
  • Makara got third in her age group in the sprint distance.

In addition, the team volunteered at the children’s triathlon the day before.
