Starting June 11, users of WebEx (cwru.webex.com) and WebEx Student (cwru-students.webex.com) at Case Western Reserve University will notice a new screen following the familiar Single Sign-On page. On this new screen, users will see an “information release,” which displays details about their CWRU technology account that is shared during the sign-in process.
The account information contains the user’s first name, last name, email address and CWRU Network ID. This routine information was always shared with the login service, but following the upgrade, WebEx users will now have the opportunity to see it as well.
Through the new screen, WebEx users may choose to see this account information each time they log in to WebEx, or they may choose to never see the screen again.
Case Western Reserve relies on several services to log users in to the university’s technology resources. One such service, the SAML Identity Provider, is undergoing an upgrade. WebEx uses the SAML Identity Provider and is the second service, following QuickBase, to be affected by this upgrade.
In the months ahead, the SAML Identity Provider will be upgraded for additional technology resources as well, such as the university’s lynda.com portal. Follow-up announcements will be distributed as more services receive this change. In the meantime, know that this minor process change is legitimate and does not represent a shift in policy.
