Next Level Fitness Studio will host a two-part class as part of its self-defense workshop series. Attendees can participate in one or both of the sessions for an interactive introduction to self-defense Saturday, Nov. 23. Level one instruction will begin at 1:30 p.m., and level two will be offered at 3:30 p.m.
Participants will learn the basic fighting stance, defending choke holds, using wrist locks, arm and leg holds, and taking an attacker to the ground.
Level one is a prerequisite for the level two class. Participants are welcome to take both classes on the same day.
Students (CWRU/CIA/CIM) pay $25 in advance or $30 at the door, while all others pay $30 in advance or $35 at the door.
About the instructor
During his four years enlisted in the Marines, instructor Kirk Simmons earned his black belt in mixed martial arts, self-defense and armed one-on-one combat. Simmons graduated from John Carroll University with his bachelor’s degree in exercise science and entrepreneurship and also has a strength and conditioning specialist certification from the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
