Memorial services will be held tomorrow for Case Western Reserve University undergraduate Scott Wayne, who passed away Sunday after a car crash in Brecksville. He was 18 years old.
A native of Brecksville and a 2011 graduate of Walsh Jesuit High School, Wayne was a rising sophomore who planned to study biomedical engineering. This summer, he was spending his second year as a seasonal employee for the city of Brecksville’s service department.
Those who knew Wayne in and out of the classroom remember him as a charming, bright young man.
“Scott was an extremely intelligent and talented young man with an enormous amount of potential and many great things ahead of him,” said Michael Mason, interim assistant dean for first-year students and assistant director of first-year student academic affairs. “He had the kind of charm and charisma that made others feel happier for being around him. He will be missed greatly.”
Marixa Lasso, associate professor of history, taught Wayne in a SAGES first-year seminar and served as his SAGES adviser. She, too, remembers him as a “nice, bright student and a very gifted writer.” She especially appreciated his unending willingness to weigh in when the rest of the class went silent during group discussions—even more evidence of his warm, intelligent demeanor.
Wayne is survived by his parents, Ronald and Ann Marie; brothers Ryan (Natalie), a 2002 graduate of the Case School of Engineering, Adam and Brad; and nephew and godson Caleb.
Friends are invited to visit on Wednesday, Aug. 1, from 1 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. at the Ferfolia Funeral Home (356 W. Aurora Road/Ohio Route 82, Sagamore Hills). Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 2, at St. Basil the Great Catholic Church (8700 Brecksville Road, Brecksville). Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery (480 W. Highland Road, Northfield Center). Additional information can be found online.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested in Wayne’s name to Walsh Jesuit High School (4550 Wyoga Lake Road, Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44224).
