The Laura and Alvin Siegal Lifelong Learning Program will host a talk with Anthony Wexler, a full-time lecturer in the Department of English, titled “Why Philip Roth Matters,” on Monday, Oct. 29, at 7 p.m.
In the wake of Philip Roth’s recent passing, Wexler will reflect on the literary and cultural significance of Roth’s long, productive literary career. He’ll discuss the Jewish features of Roth’s work, and how Roth’s relation to Jewishness and the Holocaust evolved with the passage of time. Finally, he’ll consider how Roth’s work has inspired a new generation of Jewish American writers.
The Oct. 29 event will begin at 7 p.m. at the Landmark Centre in Beachwood.
The event is free for Lifelong Learning members and $5 for non-members.
