Pediatrics Professor Alberto Costa reviews study on Down syndrome

Alberto CostaAlberto Costa, professor of pediatrics at the School of Medicine, reviewed a study titled, “Intracellular chloride accumulation: a possible mechanism for cognitive deficits in Down syndrome” in the April issue of Nature Medicine.

The study, involving a mouse model of Down syndrome and analysis of human postmortem brain samples, found that a receptor signaling in Down syndrome may be excitatory. The finding is expected to lead to new clinical applications in Down syndrome.
