The Siegal Lifelong Learning Program invites members of the Case Western Reserve University community to join authors Samantha Tucker and Amy Spears for a discussion on their recent book, Ohio Roller Derby and the Art of Collectivism.
This remote lecture will be held Tuesday, July 11, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; all are welcome to attend.
Tucker and Spears will discuss the necessity of community and collective work in the sport and business of roller derby. Ohio Roller Derby, one of the founding teams in the international Women’s Flat Track Derby Association, has lasted more than 15 years through the volunteer effort of skaters, officials and league members. From marketing and production, to recruitment and serving on the board of directors—all while training, playing and coaching—Tucker and Spears’ experience in wildly varying roles in co-authoring the book were collective as their roller derby league.
