The first presidential debate between Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton and Republican candidate Donald Trump took place Monday—and for some, it brought back memories of three election cycles ago and a major event on our campus.
On Oct. 5, 2004, the vice presidential debate took place at Case Western Reserve University in the Veale Convocation, Recreation and Athletic Center. That night, Democratic candidate John Edwards debated incumbent vice president Dick Cheney. PBS’ Gwen Ifill moderated the incredibly popular debate, watched by 43.6 million people.
Nearly half the respondents of this week’s trivia question knew the debate was an Edwards–Cheney matchup, while other responses included Bill Clinton–George H.W. Bush, Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, and Joe Biden and Sarah Palin.
