The Mandel School International Education Program will host a lunch and learn session for the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel School of Social Sciences’ study abroad program in Guatemala.
This lunch and learn session will be offered today (Sept. 19) and Wednesday, Sept. 27, from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. in Mandel School, Room 236. Attendance only is required for one.
Victor Groza, the Grace F. Brody Professor of Parent-Child Studies and director of the Child Welfare Fellows Program, and Zoe Breen Wood, assistant professor at the Mandel School and director of the Office of Educational Outcome Assessment, will lead this session on the course, titled “Child Welfare in Guatemala.”
This course is designed to familiarize participants with the culture and history of Guatemala, as well as study child welfare from a community development perspective program in an intense, small group experience in living, learning, traveling and studying.
Students will study child welfare issues, social services and indigenous community practices, and understand the strengths and weaknesses of social policies and human services in both Guatemala and the U.S.
Each session is worth one professional development hour.
