WKYC: Angela Newman-White, executive director of the First Year Cleveland housed within the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences, noted that Cuyahoga County’s infant mortality rate–defined as children who don’t live to see their first birthday–rose to 8.8 for every 1,000 live births, the highest it’s been in the last five years. Statistics are even worse for Black babies, she said. She also highlighted the ways that First Year Cleveland is making a difference in the community.
