This weekend, a group of Case Western Reserve University students hosted the 30th annual Korean American Students Conference (KASCON), an event designed to help Korean-American students from around the country understand their heritage and connect with each other.
After a group of students lobbied to bring the conference to CWRU and found out their bid had been approved in August, the Mirae Foundation—the body that connects previous and current hosts and guides students through the planning process—selected eight students to serve on the Board of Directors.
Since the board was formed, the students have been tasked with handling all aspects of the conference from financing to programming. The event will feature several speakers, networking, entertainment and a talent show.
The students chose this year’s theme, “Jeong,” a Korean word, which cannot be directly translated into English, but is similar in meaning to unity, fondness or love. The board encouraged Jeong between attendees over the weekend, continuing a three-decade tradition in Korean-American student life.
