Did You Know: 2017 research highlights

As 2017 comes to a close, we’re taking time to reflect on this year—a time packed with significant university news, key research advancements and high-profile events on campus.

Did you know that in 2017, our researchers:

  • Helped a man with quadriplegia move again with injury-bridging technologies;
  • Determined the prevalence of domestic violence in Ohio and its lifetime costs;
  • Explained why some people hold so strongly in their beliefs, even when evidence contradicts them;
  • Helped restore a youth baseball league in Cleveland;
  • Found that after Hurricane Katrina, personal debt fell for those worst hit—but with potentially costly ramifications for the city of New Orleans;
  • Invented a vest to keep surgeons cool under pressure;
  • Received a grant to target oral complications of HIV;
  • Discovered how uncontrolled vitamin A metabolism in the gut can cause harmful inflammation;
  • And so much more?
