Shannon French, director of the Inamori International Center for Ethics and Excellence, delivered the Eisenhower Institute’s 24th annual Henry M. Scharf Lecture at Gettysburg College on Feb. 19.
Her lecture, titled, “Death Before Dishonor? Modern Military Ethics Meets the Warrior’s Code,” focused on French’s research on military ethics, with regard to the conduct of war. Drawing on her firsthand experience as a faculty member at the United States Naval Academy, she explained the historical roots of the “Warrior’s Code” and the implications that it has had for United States Armed Forces in conflicts, past and present.
