Important dates and deadlines announced for commencement 2020

Graduating students of Case Western Reserve are encouraged to mark their calendars for important dates leading up to commencement on Sunday, May 17.

Apply to graduate in SIS

All students are required to apply to graduate. Students can apply for graduation by completing the graduation application in the Student Information System (SIS). Complete instructions for completing the graduation application are available from the University Registrar. Contact your school’s registrar with specific questions.

Register to attend commencement

All graduating students must register online to indicate whether or not they plan to attend the commencement ceremonies. The commencement registration form is separate from the SIS graduation application. Commencement registration for all graduates is open from March 1 to April 1.

Graduate students can register online beginning March 1, or register in person at one of the commencement-preparation events listed below.

Doctoral fittings

Doctoral fitting events are open to all professional and doctoral students (MD, DMD, DMA, PhD, DNP, DM, JD, and SJD graduates). At the doctoral fittings, professional and doctoral degree candidates can register to participate in commencement ceremonies and have their regalia measurements taken.

The fittings will be held:

  • Tuesday, March 3, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the School of Law, Gund Hall, Student Lounge (upper level)
  • Friday, March 20, from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Tinkham Veale University Center, Smith Commons (main floor)

Grad Fair

Any student participating in commencement can visit Grad Fair to take care of their graduation planning and celebration needs, purchase a cap and gown and sign up to participate in commencement ceremonies. All students earning bachelor’s or master’s degrees are encouraged to purchase their caps and gowns during Grad Fair.

The Grad Fair will be held Wednesday, March 25, and Thursday, March 26, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on the upper level of the university bookstore.

At all events in preparation for commencement, representatives from the university bookstore and the commencement office will be available to assist students with academic regalia measurements, commencement registration and related questions.
