“How to Get a Head in Ancient Israel: Exploring the Book of Judith”

The Siegal Lifelong Learning Program will host a remote lecture titled “How to Get a Head in Ancient Israel: Exploring the Book of Judith” Wednesday, Dec. 14, from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Caryn Tamber-Rosenau, instructional associate professor of Jewish studies at University of Houston, will lead this session.

The ancient Jewish book of Judith tells the story of a beautiful, pious widow who seduces an enemy general to his death. This talk will explore questions such as: What does Judith have to do with Hanukkah? Why didn’t her book make it into the Jewish biblical canon? And what is the role of Judith’s womanhood in her story?

This lecture is free for Siegal Lifelong Learning members and $5 for nonmembers.

Register to attend.
