Hear from the student directors of Doc Opera 2024: Pokémon, Gotta Match ‘Em All!

Each December, hundreds of Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine students step into the spotlight to showcase talents rarely called upon in classrooms and clinical rotations. The variety show Doc Opera, now in its 40th year, raises funds for the school’s student-run health clinics and requires intensive planning by teams of volunteers throughout the year to make it a success.

This year’s show, Pokémon, Gotta Match ‘Em All!, takes inspiration from the video game, animated series, films and trading cards that encourage exploration of the Pokémon universe to catch and tame the mythical creatures.

Doc Opera student directors are selected early in the year, while themes are voted on in the spring and rehearsals kick off in the fall. We spoke with several student directors to learn more about their experiences with the show and why they volunteer their time.

Get to know the directors via profiles on the School of Medicine website.
