Many were able to correctly identify the doors we highlighted in this week’s Guess Where question as Guilford House.
While the majority got the answer right, another common answer was Thwing Center.
Financed with a gift from Flora Stone Mather and land donated by Jeptha H. Wade II, Guilford House was originally called Guilford Cottage. It was dedicated in 1892 and was the first building built as a dormitory for women at Western Reserve University. It was renamed from cottage to house in 1899.
The building was named for Linda Guilford, who served on the Mather Advisory Council.
Today, the building is home to the English and modern languages and literatures departments.
