First-year students: Prepare for move-in with these tips

Move-in and orientation are coming up fast. First-year students are asked to arrive on campus for move-in on the following dates to ensure they are able to fully participate in orientation programming.

  • Fall varsity athletes: Students should discuss their team’s move-in details with their coach.
  • Adventures participants: Thursday, Aug. 13
  • International students: Wednesday, Aug. 12, or Thursday, Aug. 13
  • All other students: Sunday, Aug. 16

Early this month, students will be asked to sign up for a move-in time on their New Student Checklist. Upon arrival, they will check in at Wade Commons to pick up their orientation materials, room key and student ID.

Assistance will be provided during move-in Sunday. Staff in Cushman vehicles and small flatbed trucks will meet students curbside to help them unload their vehicle, and student volunteers will help them move their belongings to their room.

In order to help volunteers, consider these guidelines when preparing to move:

  • Pack the majority of items in boxes or storage containers. Larger loose items are OK. Small loose items or loose clothes are more difficult to transport.
  • Label boxes and items with the student’s name, building and room number. This will help the volunteers deliver items to the correct room.
  • If it looks like there will be inclement weather, pack larger items appropriately.

Check the Guidebook app for a list of optional events prior to the start of New Student Orientation, like the parent-student lunch, campus tours, and the bank and cell phone fair.
