Sarah Vowell will discuss her novel Lafayette in the Somewhat United States as the 2017 Elaine G. Hadden Distinguished Visiting Author and keynote speaker at Fall Convocation, a university tradition that serves as the formal celebration to open the new academic year.
Fall Convocation is Wednesday, Aug. 30, at 4:30 p.m. in Severance Hall. The event is open to the campus and community.
This annual event features an academic procession, keynote speaker and the presentation of Distinguished University Professors.
Faculty members interested in participating in the academic procession are encouraged to register online by today (Aug. 18). Faculty are responsible for obtaining their own academic regalia from the University Bookstore.

A reception and book signing at the Tinkham Veale University Center immediately follows the ceremony.
