Dhamakapella places first at two competitions; team members earn individual awards

Since the start of the semester, Dhamakapella—Case Western Reserve University’s South Asian fusion a cappella team—has competed in two bid competitions for All-American Awaaz, the national South Asian Fusion A Cappella competition. 

The team traveled to Michigan State’s Spartan Sitara Jan. 27 and UC Davis’ Davis Dhwani Febr. 11, placing first at both competitions.

Members of the team also earned several individual awards. Juniper Duncan winning “Outstanding Arrangement” for “Past Lives/Mitwa” at Spartan Sitara and again for “Like I Would/Tere Hoke Rahenge” at Davis Dhwani. Jennifer Huang, Harry Ganz and Rachel Gopalani were honored with the “Outstanding Visual Performance” award for their choreography at both competitions. Harshini Somisetty won “Outstanding Soloist in a Non-South Asian Song” for “Past Lives” at Spartan Sitara. Sashvat lyer was selected for “Outstanding Vocal Percussion” at Spartan Sitara.
