Dhamakapella finishes most successful competition season with a second-place national title

Dhamakapella, Case Western Reserve University’s premier South Asian fusion a cappella team, won second place at the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella (ICCA) Midwest Semifinals and the All-American Awaaz, making this competition season the team’s most successful on record.

Prior to the ICCA Midwest Semifinals, Dhamakapella took first place at the Midwest Quarterfinals at the Maltz Performing Arts Center in February 2022. The team’s victory allowed them to advance to the ICCA Midwest Semifinals, which made ICCA history as the first semifinal with two South Asian a capella teams. Dhamakapella’s performance at the Midwest Semifinals was awarded second place. Dhamakapella alumnus Vivek Kapur was awarded Outstanding Vocal Percussion at the competition.

In addition to the team’s first-place victory at the ICCA Midwest Quarterfinals, Dhamakapella also finished in first at the Steel City Sapna in February. The team’s season came to a close with a second-place finish at the All-American Awaaz, the national championship competition for South Asian a capella, in San Antonio, Texas.
