At Dhamakapella’s latest competitions, the team took home both group and individual awards.
At Yaadein 2017, a competition hosted by the Iota Nu Delta fraternity of Boston University, Dhamakapella took home first place. The team competed against teams from MIT, Rutgers University, University of California—Davis, Penn State University, University of Massachusetts and the University of Miami.
As the first place finishers, Dhamakapella was granted an automatic bid to the national championship, “All-American Awaaz,” won a $750 cash prize and a free single from Liquid 5th Productions. The nationals competition will be held later in April in New York City.
In addition to the team finish, music director Shaunak Roy won “Best Arrangement” and soloists Madhav Nandan and Naveen Ram both won “Best Soloist.”
Earlier in April, the team came in second place at Gathe Raho 2017, which was hosted by the University of Iowa. They competed against teams from Rutgers University, University of Miami, Michigan State University, Carnegie Mellon University, Saint Louis University and Loyola University Chicago.
Vasu Kuram, Naveen Ram and Shaunak Roy all received the “Best Male Vocalist” category award and Roy also was awarded “Best Musical Composition.”
