In honor of the Class of 2022’s arrival on campus, Monday’s edition of The Daily asked readers to guess which year three photos were taken in. The photos feature scenes from move-in days throughout the university’s history; learn when each image was captured below.
The first photo stumped guessers the most. It was taken in 1993 and shows a student moving into a building in the Carlton Road Complex in South Residential Village. Just 19 percent of respondents were within five years of the correct date, with over half guessing that it was from the 1970s.
The second photo, which shows a family moving a student into one of the North Residential Village dorms, was easier for participants to identify. Nearly half (46 percent) guessed within five years of the photo’s actual date—1970—and eight percent of guessers were spot-on.
The last photo provides the earliest glimpse into CWRU move-in: an image of several families moving into South Residential Village’s Murray Hill Complex in 1965. The vehicles pictured may have aided participants in guessing correctly as over half (54 percent) were within five years of the correct date.
