Federal offices are scheduled to reopen today after President Donald Trump signed a compromise measure Monday evening that funds government operations through Friday, Feb. 8.
As a result, the closures and delays detailed in Monday’s Daily are no longer in effect, with the impact on university operations largely negligible.
The stalemate ended after Senate Majority leader Mitch McConnell, a Republican from Kentucky, indicated a willingness to allow legislation involving immigration issues—including the Deferred Action for Childhood Dreamers (DACA) and border security—to be addressed on the Senate floor. The commitment moved enough Senate Democrats to support a new funding extension, which in turn won approval in the House of Representatives.
The Daily will continue to provide updates regarding DACA and the possibility of another shutdown in the coming weeks.
