The Center for SUDEP Research at Case Western Reserve University awarded grants to two pilot studies as part of the 2018 UCB Pilot Award Program for SUDEP Research. The research grants are funded by UCB, a pharmaceutical company.
The awardees are:
- Basic Science Pilot Award for SUDEP: William Nobis (Northwestern University) for “The role of the extended amygdala in respiratory control and sudden unexplained death in epilepsy”
- Clinical Research Pilot Award for SUDEP: Philippe Ryvlin (University of Lausanne) for “Quantifying the severity of generalized tonic clonic seizures with connected devices during video-EEG monitoring”
Since its inception in 2014, the Center for SUDEP Research has had 61 applications from six countries and awarded funding to 10 pilot projects.
