Celebrating innovation: E-Week events showcase engineering and build community (plus prizes and free food!)

Each February, Case School of Engineering celebrates Engineers Week (E-Week). The national celebration—which originated in 1951—is a time to reflect on the contributions engineers make to the world and encourage young people to pursue education and careers in the industry.

Case Western Reserve University is celebrating E-Week from Friday, Feb. 14-Friday, Feb. 21, with a variety of competitive and networking events hosted by engineering student organizations which are open to all students on campus.

We sat down with two E-Week committee members—Andre Lozano (pictured above, front row far right) from the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) and Veebha Havaldar (eighth from the left in the photo to the right) with the Case School of Engineering Peer Advisors—to learn more about what is planned.

In your own words, describe E-Week.

Veebha Havaldar: E-Week is a celebration dedicated to recognizing the contributions of engineers and promoting the field through events, competitions and outreach activities. We have a great lineup this year!

Andre Lozano: E-Week is a great opportunity to celebrate engineering and bond with fellow students in fun and engaging competitions hosted by clubs and student organizations.

What is your favorite part about E-Week?

Havaldar: I love seeing the events student groups across campus created—they are a great way to get involved with the engineering community here at Case Western Reserve.

Lozano: I enjoy taking a break from engineering classes to apply some of the ideas we learn to fun projects and design competitions.

Why should students from across the university participate and how can they get involved?

Havaldar: It’s a great opportunity to network, you can win prizes, and overall, just have fun. E-Week is for everyone (engineering or not)!

Lozano: There are a lot of unique opportunities to meet new people from different disciplines. The competitions and events are geared towards involving all students regardless of major. It’s all about designing exciting projects and having fun!

What can attendees expect at your events?

Havaldar: The Survival Island Showdown is an exciting build competition, with some hefty cash prizes!

Lozano: SHPE is hosting the LEGO bridge building competition alongside Case Engineers Council (CEC) and Case Alumni Association (CAA) to test your knowledge of mechanics and aesthetics. The goal is to create the best designed LEGO bridge to hold the most weight and incorporate artistic vision. The winners will receive prizes and all attendees are welcome to enjoy Potbelly sandwiches and a hot cocoa station!

The 2025 schedule:

This year, the committee is hosting six events—many of which will include free food and stickers. Plus, winners at some events will take home prizes! Visit the CampusGroups Page for additional information and to sign up.
