Movies, concerts, paintball and more: University Program Board (UPB) is the group behind many entertaining events students enjoy on- and off-campus.
The organization’s main goal is to coordinate educational, social and cultural activities for the university community.
UPB’s committees organize a number of events every year, including:
- Crave It: This event brings food trucks to campus and provides students with coupons to use.
- Fall and spring break trips: These trips take students off campus at highly subsidized prices, including transportation and hotel rooms. Past fall trips have included New York, Toronto and Montreal, while spring trips have taken students to locations like New Orleans and Miami.
- Fall concert: This event brings popular music acts like Waka Flocka Flame, Timeflies and Atlas Genius to campus.
- Spring comedian: UPB arranges for comedians like Hasan Minhaj and Trevor Noah to perform
- Thwing Tuesdays: These weekly events start at noon in the Thwing Center atrium. UPB aims to provide food from off campus and/or food to complement a partner organization’s activity or event.
Other activities UPB has coordinated include excursions to watch Cleveland sports games, whitewater rafting, a free screening of Black Panther and a talk by Orange is the New Black actress Diane Guerrero as well as numerous giveaways throughout the year.
UPB’s next big event is part of their UPBeats concert series: headliner Aminé and student group 4upz will perform in the Thwing Center ballroom Friday, Aug. 31, at 8 p.m. Tickets will be $5.
Students can stay up-to-date about concerts on-campus with the UPBeats Facebook page.
