In honor of LGBT Pride Month, this week’s spotlight focuses on the LGBT Center.
Headquartered in the Tinkham Veale University Center, the LGBT Center provides resources, programs and support, as well a welcoming space for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and allied students, faculty, staff and alumni. The LGBT Center also facilitates workshops and trainings for the broader CWRU campus to educate about LGBT identities and to advocate for a more inclusive, safe space for the community.
Additionally, the center provides community members with a number of resources, including educational materials, pride celebrations and conversation groups. Conversation groups are student-focused and address a broad range of topics, including sexual orientation, sexuality, gender identity, disability, intersectionality, mental health and more.
The LGBT Center offers support and works in collaboration with LGBT student groups (Theta Pi Sigma, QGrad and Spectrum) in addition to faculty organizations (LGBTQA Committee and the LGBTQ Research Group).
Lavender Graduation, the center’s most recent event, celebrated LGBTQ+ student accomplishments and honored multiple students, staff and faculty with awards.
When students return to campus in the fall, the center will host an LGBTQA+ career fair called Pathways to Pride in conjunction with the University Career Fair and the Career Center.
