Blackboard Learn to be down for scheduled maintenance Aug. 17

This weekend, Blackboard Learn will undergo a major upgrade that will result in some system downtime and unavailability from midnight through noon on Saturday, Aug. 17.

This is a necessary upgrade that will result in increased system stability, as well as some new and enhanced features:

  • A cleaner, more modern look, though the familiar layout will remain the same
  • A new global navigation menu that provides one-click access to all Blackboard sites
  • A new “My Blackboard” panel, accessible from the global navigation menu, that allows users to view posts, grades, upcoming assignments and calendar from one place
  • An improved content editor to allow easier formatting, pasting of content and creation of math formulas
  • The new Video Everywhere feature, which allows users to record video directly from webcams and embed the clips into the content editor
  • A new Retention Center, which replaces the Early Warning Dashboard and allows instructors to monitor students’ progress and performance within the course
  • New inline grading of assignments that eliminates the need to download submissions before grading them and allows instructors to view, provide feedback and grade assignments from within the browser
  • Streamlined discussion forums that are better organized and can be opened in one area, leading to better readability.

After the upgrade, all previous and current course content and materials still will be available.
