“Approaching Food Systems, Agriculture, and Nutrition Work Through an Integrative Lens of Equity, Sustainability, Cultural Respect, and Community-Centeredness – The SUSHI Project”

Members of the Case Western Reserve University community are invited to join the Swetland Center for Environmental Health for a seminar Thursday, Nov. 15, from 9 to 10 a.m. in BioEnterprise Building, Suite 400. 

Brandy E. Phipps, assistant professor in the Department of Agricultural and Life Sciences at Central State University, will present “Approaching Food Systems, Agriculture, and Nutrition Work Through an Integrative Lens of Equity, Sustainability, Cultural Respect, and Community-Centeredness – The SUSHI Project.”

The SUSHI project  is a a $10 million USDA Sustainable Agriculture Systems project focused on the following goals:

  • Investigating methods to decrease the cost and environmental impact of nutrient-dense food production; 
  • Increasing domestic markets for hemp grain and aquaculture to positively impact environmental footprint and equity/access issues within food production in the U.S.; 
  • Contributing to the diversity of the agriculture workforce; and 
  • Supporting the food sovereignty and public health efforts of a low-resourced minority community.
