Learn about foraging with courses at Squire Valleevue and Valley Ridge Farms

Squire Valleevue and Valley Ridge Farms will host foraging classes several times over the next few months.

Participants will learn how to safely identify, sustainably harvest and prepare wild flora and fungi. Ryan Bennett, a former chef and now the Farm Food Program coordinator for Case Western Reserve University’s Squire Valleevue and Valley Ridge Farms, has spent the last 10 years foraging throughout northeast Ohio for local restaurants.

Each course will include three, three-hour sessions on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Courses will be held:

  • May 25, June 1 and June 8;
  • June 29, July 6 and July 13; and
  • Sept. 14, 21 and 28.

The class involves a large amount of hiking through the woods. Boots or hiking shoes, long pants, water bottles, bug spray and sunscreen are highly recommended. A signed course waiver is required for this class; the waiver will be emailed to registered participants.

The course fee is $75.

Register for the course beginning May 25.

Registration for the sessions beginning June 29 and Sept. 14 will open soon.

Six participants are needed to offer the course, with a maximum of 12.
