Information Technology Services (ITS) recently completed an upgrade to the wireless network in Adelbert Hall. Over a two and a half hour period, technicians replaced all 15 wireless access points throughout the building without causing any disruptions to connectivity. In addition to creating a faster connection, the upgrade increases the range of the wireless signal while decreasing congestion. The new 802.11n access points utilize Cisco’s CleanAir technology, which automatically improves performance when radio frequency interference is detected.
The recent work completed in Adelbert Hall is part of ITS’s effort to upgrade each of the campus’s wireless access points. Upon completion of the project’s current phase, fewer than 40 older access points will remain, which will be upgraded during the fall semester.
