In Monday’s trivia question, we asked you to guess which U.S. president is not believed to have visited the Case Western Reserve University campus, either before or after their election. Though the campus has played host to presidents Franklin D. Roosevelt, Dwight Eisenhower and Gerald Ford, there is no record of William Howard Taft ever coming to campus. President Taft was the most guessed answer (31.6 percent).
President Roosevelt visited Oct. 20, 1920, when he was a vice-presidential candidate. He gave a campaign speech at the old Franklin Thomas Backus School of Law building, which now houses University Health Service. This was the second most popular guess, chosen by just over a quarter of respondents.
On Nov. 9, 1961, former President Eisenhower spoke at an event called “Night with Ike,” held in Horsburgh Gymnasium. A fifth of respondents chose this answer.
President Ford came to campus Feb. 8, 1968, six years before he would become president, to give a lecture titled “The American Political Scene” in Strosacker Auditorium. Just over 20 percent of respondents chose this answer.
