Over the summer, students from the Punjab province in Pakistan worked alongside local high school students to investigate important local, regional and international water-related issues. The opportunity came from a collaborative program among the Leonard Gelfand STEM Center, Hiram College and Kent State University titled Learning Streams International.
Students from Theodore Roosevelt High School in Kent, Ohio; Cuyahoga Falls High School; and Aurora High School participated in the program.
The students collected, tested and analyzed data on streams, rivers and other water bodies on each of the high school campuses, Kelley’s Island and West Creek Reservation.
Army Public Schools & Colleges, which is run by the Pakistani government, recently recognized James Bader, executive director of the Leonard Gelfand STEM Center.
For his work with the students, the Army Public Schools & Colleges honored Bader with an Ajrak, a ceremonial shawl that symbolizes love for nature, and a trophy.
