In Monday’s edition of The Daily, we asked you to guess when each of three photos was taken. All three of the photographs featured commencement exercises from one of Case Western Reserve University’s predecessor institutions or CWRU itself. See if you guessed correctly.
More than 20 percent of respondents correctly guessed that the first photo was taken at Cleveland College’s 1939 commencement. It features graduates of the adult education program with their children.
The second photo was taken at a Western Reserve University commencement and features graduates from the College for Women. In the background is Guilford House, then known as Guilford Cottage, which used to serve as a dormitory for the College for Women. Again, more than 20 percent of participants correctly guessed that the photo is from the 1890s.
The last photo is more recent then the other two and was taken at the 1985 commencement ceremony for Case Western Reserve University, as a quarter of respondents correctly guessed. The view is from a top floor in the A.W. Smith Building looking down toward the area in front of Bingham Building.
