Through mid-April, the Cleveland Humanities Festival is in full swing, with a month full of events focused on the intersection of health, health care and medicine with the humanities.
The driving force behind the 30-plus-partner festival? The Baker-Nord Center for the Humanities.
Dedicated to highlighting and celebrating the humanities, the Baker-Nord Center sponsors events, brings noted scholars to campus, connects humanities majors with opportunities in Cleveland, supports research, facilitates creative work and much more.
One of its most notable programs, Humanities@Work, shares job, training and internship opportunities with humanities students through numerous partners. The events bring Cleveland professionals who studied the humanities to campus to share how studying in their fields affected their career paths.
Additionally, the Baker-Nord Center funds the research and creative endeavors of faculty, graduate and undergraduate students through various grants, sponsorships and fellowships. These funding opportunities allow awardees to travel to different parts of the world, focusing on a particular academic interest and spreading appreciation for the humanities.
The center was established thanks to a generous gift from Eric and Jane Nord and resides in Clark Hall.
