The Young Writers of Cleveland will host a benefit dinner focused on literacy Wednesday, March 21, from 7 to 8 p.m. in the Wyant Athletic and Wellness Center’s Wyant Varsity Room.
Speakers will give presentations on literacy and attendees will have the chance to ask questions.
The event is free, but food from Barrio will be available for $5 or for those who donate two books for children or teenagers (no textbooks).
Young Writers of Cleveland is a University Media Board organization at Case Western Reserve that promotes literacy in the Cleveland area by publishing Cleveland youth’s writing in a magazine.
Scholarship opportunity
The Young Writers of Cleveland Magazine also is offering two scholarships for creative writing pieces from Case Western Reserve University students. The two writers with the best writing pieces will each receive a $100 scholarship and have their writing printed in the April edition of organization’s magazine.
The publication is distributed around campus, and other local venues, most recently in area hospital waiting rooms.
The piece should be 12pt. font, double-spaced and about one page long. It can be about any subject as long as it is appropriate for a young child to read. The issue theme is “spring/summer,” however any type of creative writing is acceptable.
Artwork also is accepted. The deadline to submit is March 23 at 11:59 p.m.
Email writing in a word document to YWCleveland@gmail.com. Also address inquiries regarding artwork to that address.
Students may only submit one piece of writing and/or artwork.
