Founded in 1892, the School of Law marks its 125th anniversary this year. Throughout October, we will celebrate the school’s history by highlighting distinguished alumni and major milestones.
The late Blanche E. Krupansky is among the School of Law’s notable alumni. In 1981, Krupansky became the second woman to serve on Ohio’s Supreme Court.
She graduated first from the Flora Stone Mather College for Women in 1947 and the School of Law in 1948. Prior to Gov. James A. Rhodes appointing her to the Ohio Supreme Court, she served on the Cleveland Municipal Court from 1961-1969 and was elected to the Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas in 1968 and to the 8th District Court of Appeals in 1976.
She was appointed to the Ohio Supreme Court to complete the term of Paul W. Brown, who had resigned. Ohio law required that she run for re-election for the position in 1982. Upon losing the election, she again served on the 8th District Court of Appeals.
Krupansky was inducted into the Ohio Women’s Hall of Fame.
Her brother, Robert B. Krupansky, also graduated from the School of Law in 1948. Two presidents later nominated him to judicial positions.
