Mohsen Seifi, a doctoral researcher in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, was selected as one of the two 2015 Henry DeWitt Smith Scholar by the Minerals, Metals and Materials Society (TMS). He was recognized at TMS 2015—the 144th annual Meeting & Exhibition in Orlando—where he officially accepted the award from Behrooz Fattahi, president of the American Institute of Mining, Metallurgical, and Petroleum Engineers (AIME).
Established in 1967, the award was created to assist worthy students in the pursuit of their graduate education in the Mining, Metallurgical, Materials, or Petroleum Departments of leading universities and colleges. The awards are individually administered by the four AIME member societies. Recipients of the scholarship receive a check in amount of $3000.
Seifi is a member of TMS Mechanical Behavior of Materials Committee. In addition to the award, he recently was selected as a technical lead contact at ASTM F42.01 (sub-committee for additive manufacturing- testing) to develop new standard for orientation dependence of mechanical properties of parts made by additive manufacturing.
