“Woman in Gold”

The Siegal Lifelong Learning Program will host an upcoming free remote lecture titled “Woman in Gold” Wednesday, Nov. 6, from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

E. Randol Schoenberg, an attorney, Jewish genealogist and documentarian, will share the true story of Maria Altmann, whose journey to reclaim her heritage and seek justice sixty years after the atrocities her family experienced during the Holocaust was captured in the movie Woman in Gold.

Schoenberg was the attorney who represented Altmann. During this talk, members of the community will learn about Altmann’s journey to retrieve family possessions seized by the Nazis, among them Klimt’s famous painting “Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer.” Together with her inexperienced, but plucky young lawyer, she embarked upon a major battle that took them all the way to the heart of the Austrian establishment and the U.S. Supreme Court, forcing her to confront difficult truths about the past along the way.

This lecture is offered in partnership with the Jewish Genealogy Society of Cleveland
