Students are invited to connect with Global Health Design Collaborative (GHDC), an interdisciplinary student organization that aims to integrate social science and engineering disciplines in the development of relevant, sustainable solutions to health concerns in mid- or low-income countries. Specifically, GHDC uses the principles of anthropology and engineering design to contextualize and solve unmet clinical needs in Uganda. Members get hands-on design experience, learn how to apply for funding grants, and present project work to the community.
This year, GHDC has integrated remote learning into its design activities. Students will have a virtual tour of the GHDC workspace in Sears think[box], learn about ethics and sustainability in global health and participate in remote design competitions. The organization’s five project teams are:
- Pediatric Pulse Oximetry;
- Medical Waste Management;
- DMPA-SC Female Contraceptive Device Protection;
- Vaccine Cooling Carrier; and
- Vaccine Backpack.
The teams have resumed their project work online and are hosting interest meetings for prospective members.
