Dhamakapella placed third at the South-Asian fusion a cappella national championships, All-American Awaaz, in New York City April 22. The team competed against groups from Texas A&M, University of Maryland, University of Michigan, MIT, Rutgers University and the University of Miami.
In addition to the third place finish, the team won “Crowd Favorite” and music director Shaunak Roy won the individual award for “Best Arrangement.”
This semester was Dhamakapella’s most successful competition season to date, placing at all four competitions the team attended, garnering five individual awards along the way—”Best Soloist,” “Best Male Vocalist” and “Best Arrangement” (three times).
The team collected more than $2,000 in prize money this semester.
