The Windows 8.1 Enterprise upgrade now is available for free download for students, faculty and staff at softwarecenter.case.edu. In this latest version, the operating system can boot directly to the desktop, rather than the “start” screen. Improvements also have been made to better support users who prefer a mouse and keyboard experience to access applications.
Computers with Windows 7 Enterprise, Windows 7 Professional or Windows 8 Enterprise (volume licenses) installed may be upgraded with an in-place upgrade that preserves all programs and settings. All other versions of Windows, including different versions of Windows 7 or Windows 8, require a clean install (all programs and settings will be lost).
