Windows 10 updates may cause issue when attempting to print; view instructions to revert update

University Technology ([U]Tech) informs Windows users that applying recent Windows 10 updates may cause a computer failure when attempting to print.

Specifically, Windows updates KB5000802 and KB5000808 will cause a temporary computer failure when attempting to print to Kyocera, Ricoh and Dymo printer brands (other brands may be impacted as well). [U]Tech recommends to save any work prior to printing, and if affected, users should restart their computer.

Faculty and staff using university-supplied computers in the following areas do not need to take any action, as their updates are managed:

  • Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing
  • Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences
  • School of Dental Medicine
  • School of Law
  • UGEN + Executive IT Support
  • Weatherhead School of Management
  • Thin Client users

Users in areas that do not manage their updates are able to revert an update by navigating to the Control Panel, then Programs, then Programs and Features, then Installed Updates screen, and selecting the update to remove.
